GRADUATION AND COLLEGE PLANNING INFORMATION

Graduation Requirements

Satellite Middle & High School is accredited by AdvancED, the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), the National Private Schools Association Group, and the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA). CITA alliance members include the North Central Association, as well as the following: Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and the National Council for Private School Accreditation.

While our credits have been accepted by all branches of the military as well as hundreds of high schools, colleges, and universities, we advise that you check with your local high school, college, or institution to confirm acceptance of our credits before enrolling in our program.

Students who graduate from Satellite High School must complete 20 credits
: 4 credits each in English, history, math, science, and electives. A maximum of 15 credits from previous high schools (including a maximum of 4.0 elective credits) may be transferred in and applied toward the Satellite diploma requirements. Credits in PE, art, music, business, shop, etc., will count as electives. If a student needs elective credits through Satellite, he/she may take any course Satellite offers--not just those courses listed in the "electives" section of the course list.   We will need a copy of a student's transcript in order to determine how his/her prior credits would apply toward Satellite's graduation requirements.

To earn a diploma through Satellite, students must complete the following specific graduation requirements as part of the 20 credits needed to graduate: Personal Finance (1/2 credit math), U.S. Government including the U.S. and Missouri Constitution exams (1/2 credit history), health (1/2 credit elective), 1 credit fine arts (elective), and 1 credit practical arts (elective).

Courses transferred in from prior high schools may be used to meet these specific graduation requirements.  Courses in business, computers, clothing, housing, child development, FACS, keyboarding, industrial technology (wood, metals...), etc. will count as practial arts courses.  Courses in art, graphic design, sculpture, painting, photography, choir, band, orchestra, speech, debate, theater, drama, etc. will count as fine arts courses.

Other than these specific graduation requirements, students are allowed to choose any of the courses Satellite offers to meet the 4.0 credits in each core area.  However, students may not take a course from Satellite if they've already passed it at another high school.

We highly recommend that students planning to go to college take the following courses if they've not already had them: Improve Your Writing, Grammar, U.S. History, World History, Algebra, Geometry, Consumer Economics, Biology, and Chemistry.

Students may only take a remedial course if they have a current IEP (individualized educational plan) at their current middle, junior high, or high school, get prior approval from their school counselor, or get permission from the Satellite Director.  A student may always take a remedial course for non-credit if he/she needs to learn the material before moving on to more advanced courses.
